About the City of Kiryu
Located 100km north of Tokyo, Kiryu is a city which benefits from rich and beautiful natural surroundings. The Watarase-river and the Kiryu-river both flow through the city which is enclosed by mountains on three sides.
The Kiryu textile industry has a long and renowned history. According to the archives, Kiryu woven silk fabrics were presented to the Imperial Court in 730(Nara Era).
Such heritage and experience combined with innovative and unique techniques in textiles including embroidery, spinning, dying and sewing, has placed Kiryu at the leading edge of the Japanese Silk Textile industry.
Company History
- 1877
- Originally established as a weaving mill in Kiryu.
Its heritage is from the spinning and dying of specialist yarns, powered by waterwheels and crafted using hand weaving in the Obi tradition.
- 1917
- The company changed its original name from Kasaka Textile to Kasamori Textile.
- 1949
- Produced Kasamori Kenjo (type of OBI belt) for which it is famous and for which Kasamori became a market leader.
- 1962
- The Embroidery business was started.
- 1972
- Incorporated as Kasamori Co., Ltd. Japan.
- 1993
- Established a branch of the business in Indonesia.
- 2000
- Exhibited at the renowned Japan Creation Exhibition.
- 2001
- Established PT.KASAMORI in Indonesia.
- 2006
- Appointed to 'One Company One Skill' from Gunma prefecture Japan.
- 2007
- Established the KASAMORI showroom in Sendagaya, Tokyo Japan.
- 2007
- Exhibited at Modamont International Textiles exhibition Paris, France.
